Siena Research Institute
Founded at Siena University in New York’s Capital District, the Siena Research Institute conducts regional, statewide, and national surveys spanning business, economics, politics, social issues, academic research, and history. Every survey conducted draws on both expert and public opinion, giving our clients comprehensive insights into the issues that matter most.
SRI’s work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Newsday, as well as dozens of scholarly journals, books, and encyclopedias. Survey results are regularly featured on local and national television, radio, and podcasts, reflecting the credibility and reach that SRI has built over more than four decades.
SRI is a proud subscriber to the American Association of Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) Code of Professional Ethics and Practices and is a member of its Transparency Initiative.

Research is education. At SRI, students from Siena University and partner colleges participate in every survey conducted, providing them real-world experience in political science, communications, sociology, psychology, and data analysis. Additionally, students contribute to special projects including event planning, original research, report writing, and analysis, building careers while advancing the science of public opinion research.
SRI is a leader in social, cultural and health research and has worked with hundreds of clients throughout the years. For the last decade, client work has focused on health and wellbeing research. SRI has also conducted studies on cyberbullying, alternative energies, participation in arts and culture, participation in sports, civic engagement, policy issues that affect citizens, and use and perception of organizations and services.
In 2026, ReconMR and Siena Research Institute entered into a strategic integration that elevates the future of public policy and public opinion research. By combining Siena Research Institute’s proven expertise with ReconMR’s advanced, multimodal data collection capabilities, this union expands the scale and impact of high-quality research available to government agencies, academic partners, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations.
“We share a commitment to scientific rigor, high-quality sampling, and credible, nonpartisan results. We are honored to have been recognized by Siena University and given the opportunity to continue growing SRI as the gold standard for public opinion research and polling. This integration sets a precedent for collaboration between expert research institutes and professional data collection and analytics firms.” – Lyle Durbin, CEO of ReconMR
“This integration positions us to do what we’ve always aspired to do: advance the science of public opinion with even greater depth, precision, and integrity. By combining Siena’s academic rigor and polling expertise with ReconMR’s exceptional data collection and analytics capacity, we are expanding what’s possible for researchers, policymakers, and the public. Together, we’ll deliver insights that are not only more comprehensive, but more meaningful for the communities we serve.” – Don Levy, Ph.D., Director of Siena Research Institute
ReconMR has for years worked with the Siena Research Institute to conduct data collection for the New York Times political poll, which has received top marks for accuracy, transparency, and methodological rigor from rankings such as the Silver Bulletin, headed by Nate Silver, creator of FiveThirtyEight. The polls conducted include comprehensive polls for key battleground states as well as nation-wide public opinion in major U.S. elections since 2018.
SRI and ReconMR have helped collect data for the DataHaven Community Wellbeing Survey (DCWS), a detailed report on the quality-of-life for residents of each city and town in the state of Connecticut, drawing on interviews with more than 50,000 randomly selected adults across every ZIP code. SRI has worked on with DataHaven on the DCWS for over a decade.
SRI has conducted the Siena New York poll, a running monthly survey of New York registered voters, for over two decades. The survey provides long-running trends of public opinion on various important issues and political figures. With the recent strategic integration, ReconMR has assisted SRI with taking on data collection for this well-regarded poll.
